What your IP address gives away
Any site you load can see every one of these values, with no permission and no cookie needed.
IPv4, IPv6 and why the city is often wrong
IP geolocation is a lookup against a database of address ranges, not a GPS reading. It's usually right about the country and often the region, but the city may be where your provider's exchange is, not where you are. That can be hundreds of miles off. On mobile data, a VPN or a corporate network, expect it to be wrong.
An address with colons instead of dots means you connected over IPv6. Both versions work everywhere on our network, and every site we host answers on both.
Why does my IP address change?
Because most home connections get a dynamic address. Your provider reassigns it when the router restarts or the lease expires. Static addresses are usually a business option, or something you add to a server.
Is it dangerous for someone to know my IP?
On its own, no. It identifies your connection, not you, and it can't be used to read your files. Someone could use it to rate-limit you, block you by region or aim traffic at your router, which is why servers sit behind firewalls.
How do I hide my IP address?
Use a VPN or proxy. It swaps your address for its own on the sites you visit. Run this tool again while connected and you should see the provider's address and location instead of yours.
What IP address does my website have?
Your website uses the IP address of the server it's hosted on, not the one shown here. You'll find it in your panel under the account details, and it's what an A record points at.
Do you store what this tool shows?
No. The lookup happens in your browser, and the result isn't written to our logs, tied to an account or used for advertising.
